Highland's Danny Davis wins in snowboarding superpipe

Danny Davis of Highland won the superpipe final, beating Olympic gold medalist Shaun White, in the first stop of the Winter Dew Tour on Sunday at Breckenridge, Colo.

Davis' winning run included a switch backside 720, a backside 900, a frontside 1,080 into a cab 1,080, and a frontside 900. "I've been riding for the summer and I was hurt last year, so it's just nice to come back and ride well and land," said Davis, 20. "I got lucky and stayed on top, so I'm stoked."

Davis scored 94.75 points. White of Carlsbad, Calif., scored 93.50.

"It was clean," White said of Davis' run. "It was smooth and he ended strong. It's nice to see that dude come through because, compared to a lot of guys, he's overdue for some victories, for sure."

In the women's event, Olympic silver medalist Gretchen Bleiler of Aspen, Colo., won with a score of 90.25. Kelly Clark of West Dover, Vt., was second at 86.75.
